Open pitches, district by district
The City of Stockholm keeps a list of its open bollplaner: public pitches anyone can use when they are not booked. These are the ones people most often name when they talk about pickup football in the city.

The pitches are free
Most of the city’s pitches — bollplaner — are free and open for spontaneous play when they are not booked. According to the City of Stockholm, floodlights on city pitches are generally on until 21:00 Sunday to Friday and until 18:00 on Saturdays, and pitches are not snow-cleared in winter. Which pitches are open right now is on the City’s list of open bollplaner.
Astroturf, mostly
Artificial turf — konstgräs — is the usual surface in Stockholm, with some natural grass and gravel. A small bollplan suits 5v5, a half pitch 7v7 and a full pitch 11v11. Boots that work on astroturf are the safe choice.
What “spontanfotboll” has meant
In Sweden the word has long stood for free, club-run sessions for children and teenagers on Friday and Saturday nights, often through initiatives such as Samhällsmatchen. That is good and it is needed. AllPlay is something else: adults and anyone who wants to play, organising their own games on any evening of the week, on any pitch.
Other ways to find a game
There are other doors in, and they cost different amounts. Meetup groups such as Kungsholmens Folkfotboll (around 40 kr a session) and Stockholm Casual Ballers (50–100 kr) gather players on booked pitches. FC Urban runs games on a paid membership. Korpen runs seasonal leagues and, from autumn 2026, drop-in sessions. Juega is another place people look. Prices are as of the time of writing and change.
What AllPlay does differently
Free to join, no membership, any pitch, games any day of the week. A host who plays on a booked pitch and splits the cost says so on the match, before you join. Everything else is the city’s own pitches, and those are free.
Swedish words you will see
- bollplan — a public football pitch, usually small, often astroturf; plural bollplaner
- konstgräs — artificial turf, the surface most games are played on
- spontanfotboll — spontaneous football — pickup football
- 5-manna / 7-manna — five-a-side / seven-a-side; 11-manna is the full game
- Swish — the Swedish mobile payment app hosts use when a booked pitch is split

Questions before your first game in Stockholm
Is pickup football in Stockholm free?
Yes. Joining a game on AllPlay is free, and the city’s bollplaner are free to use when they are not booked. Some hosts play on booked pitches and split the cost; that is always shown on the match before you join.
Do I need to be good at football?
No. Most games are mixed and friendly. A host can set a level on a match to keep it even, and it is shown before you join. No level means open to everyone.
What should I bring?
Boots that work on astroturf, water and clothes for the weather. A ball is usually provided by the host, but bring one if you have it. Anything specific is written on the match in the app.
Can I come alone?
Yes, and most people do. You can see who has joined before you decide, and teams are sorted at the pitch so everyone plays.
Can I play in winter?
Games run all year when the weather allows, but according to the City of Stockholm its pitches are not snow-cleared in winter, so outdoor games thin out between December and March. Whatever is listed in the app is on.
How many players do you need?
It depends on the format: 5v5, 7v7 or 11v11. Every match shows how many are in, how many are needed and how many spots are left. “Needs 2 more” means the host set a minimum that has not been reached yet.
Are games mixed, or sorted by level?
Mixed, as a rule. Public games are open to anyone who wants to play unless the host sets a level, and that is shown clearly on the match. A level is there to keep the game even, not to keep people out.
How do I create a game?
Pick a pitch, a time, a format and a level in the app. The match goes live on the map within seconds and nearby players are notified. Set it to repeat weekly if it is a regular game.
Is it safe to play with strangers?
That is what the trust layer is for: real profiles with a match history, reporting and blocking, a no-show record, and seeing who has joined before you commit. Games are played on public pitches.
